13 Reasons Why

English version below

Alles in allem was 13 Reasons why in Ordnung.

So Hannah Baker killed herself and is sending everyone who she thinks is responsible for her suicide evil tap messages. I just don’t get why Hannah killed herself. Some shitty things happen to her but that’s high school a being a teenager. It’s not easy. Don’t get me wrong, I do not mean that these are not thing to get upset about. But I just did not feel as if Hannah was really depressed. She was more like an angry girl that realized not everything goes like she wants it to. Maybe that’s too harsh but Hannah was annoying.  High School ends and you can start over. The things that happened to her did not seem like reasons for suicide. I did like the idea of the book. Letting a dead character recall her story was chilling and also the audio files on the webpage of this book were a great addition. But I just could not understand Hannah and her actions. What did you think? Did you like the book?

December Book Haul

I tried to buy not too much books in December. I had some books gifted to me, some books I ordered in November but they arrived in December and I only bought 3 books myself. So I think I was successful. I will try not to buy too many books in the next months and only make a big book order for my birthday in August. I know this means not too much book buying for 7 months. I won’t go on a Book Buying Ban but I will try to not buy too many books. My limit for books every month will be 50€ and I hope I can manage to not buy more. But now here are die books I got in December:

I ordered the Twilight book Set and The Hunger Games book set in late November. I wanted the Hunger Games book set because I did not like my covers at all and the new set was on sale.

hunger games

I only own the Twilight books in German and I wanted to own the English versions as well. Also the white edition is so beautiful.

twilight

I also ordered the first Unwind book by Neal Schusterman because its cover did not match with my other Unwind books. So yes I’m a book cover snob. I just want my series to match if it is not too expensive.

Unwind

Then I bought 3 classics which were also on sale. I bought the German edition of A Tale of Two Cities (Eine Geschichte aus zwei Städten) by Charles Dickens and the English editions of The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.classics

For Christmas I got the best present of all! I got the Harry Potter box set gifted and I love these books. They are so beautiful and fit perfectly on my shelf.

Harryy Potter

So this was my December Book Haul and I hope I can manage to only buy a few books each month because I already own enough unread books. How are you managing your book buying habits? Tell me in the comments below or on twitter.

Top 10 Shocking Moments on TV 2014

Inspired by this Indiwire article I want to share with me my most shocking moment in TV series this year. This post will include spoilers for this series: Parks and Recreation, House of Cards, Pretty Little Liars, Parenthood, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, Young & Hungry, Leftovers, Nashville and Newsroom. If you have not watched the new season of this shows you may consider not reading this article because there will be major spoilers.

JONATHAN SADOSWKI# 10: Young & Hungry

At the season finale of Young & Hungry’s first season, Josh finally decides that he can’t marry Caroline. He now is aware that he loves Gabi and wants to tell her but when he arrives at her apartment he glanches in the window and sees Gabi kissing Cooper. This was so hard to watch because I want Gabi to end up with Josh. Cooper is obviously not the right guy for her. But Cooper is still very cute so I can’t wait for the next season to start.

parks_and_rec_season_6_finale_# 9: Parks and Recreation

The finale of the 6th season of Parks and Recreation did something that is really rare in comedies. They jumped ahead 3 years with their story. So after Leslie announces that she is pregnant, we see her 3 years later. This jump was a bold move. We don’t get to see so many moments that would have surely be memorable. But it can also be very interesting for the next season to start it 3 years after the last one. I hope the last season of Parks and Rec will be as awesome as we want it to be.

-parenthood---joel-a# 8: Parenthood

My most shocking moment in this season of the family Drama Parenthood was maybe not that shocking. When Julia and Joel get back together I was surprised. I did not see that coming. They were separated for a long time and Julia finally had her life together and a new gorgeous boyfriend. And in exactly the moment Julia has her life back to normal Joel shows up and tells her that he loves her. But now, after so much time, Joel decides to come back? Can they two be happy together after everything Joel did?

Nashville_612x380# 7: Nashville

The season finale of Nashville was very dramatic and emotional. So much happens. But what really left me speechless is that Avery and Juliette get married. Yes, they get married! They not just try to get back together a second time, they make it official. I love them together and hope it will last because they are such a cute couple. Also it would be easier with the baby.

Kevin grills Patti. Patti is curious about Dean# 6: The Leftovers

In the scene where Kevin Jr. kidnaps Patti and brings her to a cabin in the woods we all knew this will not end well. But when I watched as she killed herself because Kevin would not kill her I was speechless. This scene was powerful and haunting. Kevin could be ruined if this gets out. Even if he did not kill her, no one will belief him that Patti did it herself. With this violent act Patti started a war and Kevin can only loos no matter what he is going to do. I’m not a really big fan of The Leftover but this episode was better than most others. I hope we get some answers in the second season.

charlie-skinner-1024# 5: Newsroom

This week Newsroom closed its doors forever. The last episode aired and it was an emotional rollercoaster. But more shocking was the episode before that where Charlie Skinner died because of a heart attack after arguing with Sloane and Don about stories they did or did not do. At the series finale we find the cast at Charlie’s funeral where Sloane and Don are blaming themselves for Charlie’s death. I really liked the Newsroom as a series but unfortunalty its last season was not as strong as the first two. However Charlie’s death was hard to get over because he was a beloved character and even when the show comes full circle with his death it still hurts.

6de87268a286d685_hoc_ps2_006_h.jpg.xxxlarge_2x# 4: House of Cards

The start of the first season of House of Cards was not really strong. It seems like the events of the first season are repeating its self. Underwood is planning and scheming but the series losses its grip. Until the unspeakable happens. Underwood pushes Zoe Barnes in front of a train. And then he speaks directly into the camera: „Welcome back“. I did not watch the complete second season of House of Cards because it lost me with the storyline of Frank but this scene was truly shocking.

game-of-thrones-purple-wedding# 3: Game of Thrones

If you watch Game of Thrones you are used to shocking moments. Nothing can be more shocking than the Red Wedding but still this season of GoT did a good job with unexpected scenes. The most shocking scene for me was the Purple Wedding when Joffrey dies in a most gruesome way. I read the books so I knew this was happening in this season but still I was surprised to see it on TV. It just looks so horrible that you even pity Joff which was the most surprising fact of this scene.

JANEL PARRISH# 2: Pretty Little Liars

When you watch Pretty Little Liars you should always be prepared for an unexpected twist or turn. That’s one of the great aspects of this show. How knows who A is and what his or her plans are for the liars? I do not know! When the announced that one character is going to be killed off in the 5th season I hoped that it won’t be one of the liars love interest because this would be very cruel after all that it happened. But that Mona would be killed came as a shock for me. I really thought it would be a parent. We will miss Mona but I can’t wait to see the season finale. I just love this crazy show.

2014-03-31-the-good-wife1# 1: The Good Wife

The 15th episode of the 5th season of The Good Wife wrecked me. It was so hard to watch. I got spoiled for it but I did not know when it would happen. So when I watched Will being killed in a court room it was one of the most shocking moments in TV. Will and Alicia should have been together. But no he gets killed off. Will was such a great character and he left a void that no one can fill. The rest of the season was not the same without him. But then the 6th season happened as The Good Wife came back stronger than ever. For me this series is the best drama series currently running and I recommend it to everyone who likes strong women and an intelligent storyline.

Top 10 Movies of 2014

The year is nearly over and I want to present you my Top 10 Movies of 2014. I know some of you may find this listing odd or you may miss some popular films. My listing is really haphazardly, only the dirt three movies were clear for me. These are just my highlights in 2014. This ranking is not necessary indent with my ratings of the individual movies. I just thought about all the movies I saw in 2014 and the ones that made the most perminant impressions got a place on this list. Tell me what your favourite movies of this year are.

Love-Rosie-new-poster (1)#10: Love, Rosie

This movie is a book adaptation from the book where the rainbow ends by Cecilia Ahern. When I watched the trailer for the movie I knew that I would love it. Then after some time I remembered that I even read the book, but it was years ago. So I had to watch this movie and Lily Collins and Sam Claflin were just so adorable. Also the movie is funny and not completely full of rom-com clichés. If you want to watch a really cute love story check this one out. You can find my review to this movie here.

22_Jump_Street_Poster

#9: 22 Jump Street

The sequel to 21 Jump Street is finally here and it is even better than the first one. Channign Tatum and Jonah Hill have so much chemistry together and I laughed through the whole movie. 22 Jump Street has also the best end credit scenes I have ever seen. I’m definitely going to watch this movie over and over again. You can find my review to this movie here.

fault-our-stars-movie-poster#8: The Fault in our Stars

I love John Green and all of his books. So I had extremely high expectations for his first book adaptation and I was not disappointed. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort are perfect as Gus and Hazel. They had me in tears after their first few scenes together. I just loved this movie and I already watched it more than three times. I know the two characters are talking more like old people than like teenagers but that is just the charmed of John Greens writing. This movie is sad but also gives a lot of hope and it is not just a soppy love story. You can find my review to this movie here.

interstellar-teaserposter#7: Interstellar

Nolan’s Space Movie was visually one of the most impressive movies in 2014. The acting was on point, the score was great and the story made me want more. I liked the fact that this movie deals with deeper meanings in humankind is not just a space movie with too much action. I had some problems with the ending because for me it was too long and too corny but after all this was a really great movie and Nolan took a lot of risks for his project, which for the most part played off. You can find my review to this movie here.

lego_movie_ver9_xlg#6: Lego Movie

A film completely made out of Lego? This is the dream of every kid that loved to play with the colourful bricks. Lego Movie has nearly everything a perfect movies needs. It has action, friendships, adventure, fun characters and catchy songs. The only thing that lacked for me just a tiny bit was the emotion. Lego Movie is a joyful experience but another animation film got me chocked up which Lego Movie could not do. Never less this was an amazing movie that you can watch over and over again.

how_to_train_your_dragon_two_ver7_xxlg#5: How to train your Dragon 2

For me this is the best animation picture of the year. A lot of people criticized that How to train your Dragon 2 had too many storylines packed into it and that it was just too much. I did not feel this way. I loved the fast pacing and the movie hit home with some pretty emotional scenes. So for me, it was a little bit better than Lego Movie. I just love Toothless and his relationship with Hicks. This movie shows how important friendship and family is and is overall a fun and gripping film to watch. You can find my review to this movie here.

The_Hunger_Games-_Mockingjay_#4: Mockingjay Part 1

As always the third Hunger Games instalment was an incredibly movie. Mockingjay is darker and more violent than the first two movies. There are no games. There are no fancy dresses and funny TV interviews. There is just war and propaganda. I applaud the film team of Mockingjay to make that transition seem believable. They could have done a lot of things wrong and the movie would have sucked. But this piece shows that The Hunger Games are not another YA boook adaptation. The Hunger Games evolve into a mature last book with very little YA and a lot of action and warfare. You can find my review to this movie here.

Short_Term_12#3: Short Term 12

Short Term 12 was released in 2013 so it is technically not a 2014 movie but I don’t think it played in our cinemas here in Austria. The DVD release however was in 2014 so I count this film to my 2014 movies. Short Term 12 follows Brie Larson who plays a supervisor of a group home for troubled teenager. This movie came as a total surprise to me. I love indie films and I heard good things about it but I was highly impressed by Larson’s raw, emotional performance. If you are a sucker for indie movies and love good acting, check out Short Term 12.

Boyhood#2: Boyhood

Boyhood is a coming-of-age drama written and directed by Richard Linklater. Coming-of-age stories are my favourite type of movies. So it was clear that I would love Boyhood because this film is special. The movie took 11 years to make so that the cast could get older in real time. It is a very quiet and subtle film. There is no big drama there is just family live of a normal family. The movie centres on first time actor Ellar Coltrane who we see growing up trough this film. I was amazed by the actors and also by the dedication that everybody must have had to make such a unique film.

Gone-Girl-Poster#1: Gone Girl

Gone Girl was my number one film this year. I was hyped since I heard that Ben Affleck is going to play Nick and David Fincher is directing the movie. Gone Girl is not my favourite movie because it is a book adaptation. In fact I hated the book but I love David Finchers work. I knew he could make a suspenseful film out of this dull book. But who would have thought he made that good of a movie? The cinematography was beautiful and there were so much powerful scenes I had to watch this movie over and over again. There was also one big surprise and it was Rosamund Pike. She delivered the performance of her life and played better than everybody else in this movie. Gone Girl will be one of my favourite movies ever because for me it was just that good. You can find my review to this movie here.

Top 10 Books of 2014

The year is nearly over and I read a total of 64 books so far. I will try to read 70 books until December is over. This was the first year in my life were I really concentrated on reading a lot. So it is really difficult to pick my Top 10 books of 2014. I picked books I read this year, these are not all books that got published this year. What were your Top 10 books of this year? Tell me in the comments below. And yes I’m gonna use the word amazing a hole lot in this post.

shades#10: Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde

This is the real Shades of Grey, the good Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde. This book does not deal with dreams of lonely housewives, it revolves around the young Eddie Russet who lives in a world where your social position is determined by which colour you can see. Most people can only see one colour some maybe two. Eddie is a Red which means that he is high on the colour spectrum. But when he meets Jane, a Grey, his world is turned upside down. This first novel in the Shades of Grey series was imaginative and so creative I was speechless. Jasper Ffordes writing is superb and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book when or if it comes out. You can find my review to this book here.

16143347#9: We were Liars by E. Lockhart

We were Liars was a surprise hit for me. I heard mixed reviews of this book and had no idea what would be happening. I have to say I did not see it coming. The ending blew me away. I will not say much about the plot because it is better to not know anything when you plan on reading We were Liars. The book is about a family that spends the summer Holidays on their own private island on the east coast. But you soon get the feeling that everybody is hiding something and that there are secrets buried on this island. This book was so faced paced I read it in one day. It is really short and perfect for the summer.

undivided#8: Undivided by Neal Schusterman

Undivided is the last instalment of Neal Schusterman’s Unwind Dystology. I loved this book because for me it was a perfect ending to one of my favourite dystopian book series. The ending was not corny and did feel realistic. We could see all the characters again, even the ones that did not show up in the last books. A truly great conclusion to a amazing series.

ready-player-one-paperback-cover1#7: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Ready Player One is a dystopian novel by Ernest Cline. In 2044 Wade Watts spends all his time logged in the OASIS, a virtual utopia. When the creator of OASIS dies sets up a contest for finding his successor. When Wade finds the first clue for this contest an action packed scavenger hunt breaks loose. This book was so different from the things I read before. It is full of 80’s pop culture references and when reading the book it felt more than a video game. You can find my review to this book here.

Shatter-Me-2#6: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Thanks to Whitney and her love for this book I picked up Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I loved this book. It is now my favourite dystopian book series ever. For me it’s even better than the hunger games because the character development is just so strong with Juliette. I loved all three books and for me they have the most perfect love triangle because it gets resolved in such an authentic and realistic way. If you like dystopian books like Divergent and The Hunger Games pick this one up. There may not be a lot of world building but the characters are so well thought out you will love them. You can find my review to this book here.

13104080#5: Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Unravel Me is the second book in the Shatter Me trilogy and I loved this books so much that all of them had to be on this list. Unravel Me is higher ranked than Shatter me just because of chapter 62 and Warner.  Warner may even replace Four from Divergent as my fictional soul mate. Yes he definitely replaced him. I also loved Unravel Me because Juliette finally begins to become her own person and starts to evolve. Her character development is just amazing. You can find my review to this book here.

COHF_cover#4: City of heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

The Mortal Instruments is one of my favorite fantasy book series even when I needed some time to appreciate these books. After 5 books I had really great expectations for the last installment in this series and Cassandra Clare excelled all these expectations. Her last book is my favorite book in this series. I loved the characters, the plot, the dialog and all the twists. I did not see the ending coming and it was perfect. Also the introduction of the younger Shadow Hunters, which will play a key role in her next spin off series, was a good idea. I definitely want to re-read City of heavenly fire in 2015. You can find my review to this book here.

13188676#3: Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

So did I tell you that I think the Shatter Me Series is amazing? It is and that conclusion was everything I hoped it would be. The last book was not rushed and not too action packed. Also there was no Insta-Love in this book which was great. I loved that Tahereh Mafi let us readers figure some things out for ourselves. There was room for our own imagination which I think is really important for books. There was no cheesy epilogue that summed up the last ten years and that was also positive. So if you have not read Shatter Me, what are you doing? Read it!!! You can find my review to this book here.

71IxCAK25cL._SL1230_#2: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This story about the twins Cather and Wren was just amazing. The book is set at college and I’m a sucker for everything revolving around college. Also Rainbow Rowell’s characters are just so believable. I found myself in Cath as I would have never imagined. This book was emotional but still light and funny at the same time. I recommend it to everyone who loves reading and has sometimes trouble to adapt to certain situations. It was such a great book. You can find my review to this book here.

15745753#1: Eleanore & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanore & Park was my first book by Rainbow Rowell and I was amazed by her writing. Now she is one of my favorite authors although I have only read two of her books. She is just that good. So it should be no surprise to you that her books are on this list. I loved them both so much it was really hard to pick a number one. But Eleanore & Park reminded me so much of my own teenage years and off the awkwardness of young love. So far this is my favorite Rainbow Rowell book and also my favorite book of 2014. You can find my review to this book here.

Herbstserien 2014

  • lg_parenthood_s5_promo_lifeNew Girl
  • Mindy Project
  • The Good Wife
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • Awkward
  • Faking it
  • The Goldberg’s
  • Modern Family
  • Nashville
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • Parenthood
  • Mom
  • Criminal Minds
  • Last man Standing
  • American Horror Story
  • 2 Broke Girls

  • A to Z - Season PilotA to Z
  • The Affair
  • Bad Judge
  • Cristela
  • Jane the Virgin
  • Black-ish
  • How to get away with murder
  • Marry me
  • The McCarthys
  • Red Band Society
  • Scorpion
  • Happyland

Was werdet ihr schauen?

  • Shatter me von Tahereh Mafi
  • Unravel Me von Tahereh Mafi
  • Ignite Me von Tahereh Mafi
  • Trough the Ever Night von Veronica Rossi
  • Into the still Blue von Veronica Rossi
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children von Ranson Riggs
  • The 5th Wave von Rick Yancey
  • Fangirl von Rainbow Rowell
  • Me and Earl and the dying girl von Jesse Andrews
  • The Daugther of Smoke and Bone von Laini Taylor
  • Days of Blood and Starlight von Laini Taylor
  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters von Laini Taylor

  • Eleanor and Park von Rainbow Rowell
  • Me before you von Jojo Moyes
  • Will Grayson Will Grayson von John Green and David Levithan
  • City of Fallen Angels von Cassandra Clare
  • City of Lost Souls von Cassandra Clare
  • City of Heavenly Fire von Cassandra Clare
  • The Giver von Lois Lowry

  • The Hobbit von J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Under the Never Sky von Veronica Rossi
  • Son von Lois Lowry
  • Mockingjay von Suzanne Collins
  • Fahrenheit 451 von Ray Bradbury
